Beginning on the 10th of Shvat, 5711, the date on which the Rebbe assumed leadership of the Chabad Chassidic movement, he would deliver a discourse explaining one chapter of the foundational discourse entitled “Bati LeGani – I have come to My garden” written by his saintly father-in-law, the holy Rabbi Yosef Yitzchak Schneerson, which was dated for the day of his passing, the 10th of Shvat, 5710, one year prior. Each successive year the Rebbe would further expound on a subsequent chapter of that discourse, which includes twenty chapters. Thus, these two volumes of “Bati LeGani 5711-5721” and “Bati LeGani 5722-5730” represent the first English translation and adaption of the complete study cycle of the Rebbe’s first set of discourses elucidating the above-mentioned discourse. It is customary amongst Chassidim to study the discourse corresponding to the current year of the study cycle on a yearly basis in preparation for the 10th of Shvat.
