Now available in English for the very first time, Yom Tov Shel Rosh Hashanah: 5666, or Samech Vav, is a compilation of the Chassidic treatises by Rabbi Shalom Dovber Schneersohn, the fifth Rebbe of Chabad, from the year 5666 (1905-1906). This series of Chassidic essays are considered a fundamental work of Chabad mysticism. The Samech Vav series is one of the single largest works of Chabad teachings. The work is titled Yom Tov Shel Rosh Hashanah after the opening words of the first treatise. The work is also popularly referred to as Hemshech Samech Vav (“Samech Vav Series”). The central theme in the series is the concept of Dirah Betachtonim, the process of “making the world a dwelling place for the Holy One, blessed is He.” This first volume, includes in it the first eight discourses.
